i thought i would give everybody a heads up on the latest issue of tactical knives. it features a "test report" of a desert rat by author Dennis Prisbrey.

sounds like a really tough knife to go into the wilds with. nice review

No surprise, it got rave reviews. the author kept refering to the company as Swamp Works though....... oh, well......what can you do.

Makes me wish I still had mine

Swamp Works sure is a strange company ill tell ya. They seem to have some sort of rat fetish its a little disturbing, i just cant figure it out.

Just came across this.
In the original version of the article submitted, I referred to them as the Swamp Rat Knife Works two or three times & then just shortened it to the Swamp Works for the rest of the piece.
In cases such as the Amalgamated Associated Consortium Of Conglomerated Pomegranite Producers, it interrupts the flow of the piece if the full name's repeated too often, so I frequently shorten it to something like Amalgamated Producers after the first couple mentions so readers don't get so bogged down each time the company name appears.
I have yet to see the article as it finally appeared, I understand it was cut down to fit the available space, don't know if the SRKWs were omitted entirely, or just partially. It was sorta an experiment for both me and the editor, I suspect my career as a knifewriter is limited to that one issue. Back to guns where I belong. :D
Hope the article was worth reading.
I ended up buying the knife after I was through playi....testing it. It's since gone along on every backcountry trip I've made after the article was done & probably will (either on the belt or among the emergency gear) on most in the future.

wow dont i feel like a jerk. i was just trying to get a chuckle, no one bit anyway sorry if i came off like a nimrod. sorry again.

Denis,

For your debut in reviewing knives, I would have to say that you chose an excellent company (and knife) to start with.

A friend of mine first introduced me to Swamp Rat a couple of years ago and seemed almost fanatical about these knives. He was trying to get me to buy one in an almost "hard sell" fashion. Like I said, he seemed fanatical.

After using a camp tramp for a few weeks, then buying my own, I've noticed that now I am doing the same thing --spreading the word..."You have to buy this knife!"

I guess my point is: Thanks for spreading the word.

Sure.
I own six or seven knives (or maybe 50+ ), there are a small handfull I'd take along for serious use in various situations. The DR is first choice in a blade that size.
Being a traditionalist, I wasn't too impressed with the tan Resiprene handle & general looks of the knife compared to my Cold Steel Laredo Bowie, for example, but after using it I was sold. The differential heat treatment is a major plus. I'm toying with the idea of giving one to my brother for his ATV jaunts in the mountains of Idaho. He's not a knife guy, but I'm figuring he oughta have one good one to take along just in case. Never know when the old machine might die on you & leave you afoot to walk out. Enjoyed towing him back to the cabin with the Rhino when his Kow did that last summer. :D Next time I may not be there.

Great article Denis! I had no idea that one of our very own forumites wrote the article. That is great to see and thanks for clarifying the reasoning behind the naming. After re-reading it makes sense.

I would not give up on writing for knife publications just yet, you covered everything and I look forward to seeing more work in the future.

Always good to read a great review on a knife company that I already like! I liked the article and thought you put it through some valid testing. (Nothing like going out and chopping stuff with a new big knife!) Hope you do write more knife articles in the future.

Thanks, but it's a pretty competitive field & hard to find the type of knife I like that hasn't already been covered by the regulars in that magazine.
