Post your mods! What you did and how you did them and any tips or tricks you learned along the way. Ill start
the RMD. I drilled out the handle rivets and then stripped the coating off using Citristrip after a 45 min soak. With citristrip you can use a scraper and completely scrape off the coating like a piece of skin. I swedged the top of the blade for a better penetrating tip.
I was going to leave the blade unfinished but the factory finish was horribly uneven so I ground down the rough areas and gave it a satin finish. I decided I didn't like the satin finish at all so I gave it a patina using oranges but decided I didnt like that either. So I gave it a hand applied scotch brite "stone washed finish" for a nice antiqued look. I Chicago screwed on the handles but Im going to some nicer looking screws. Then I gave it a highly polished convex edge and called it a day :thumbup:
Im really happy with the results and love the old timey look.
