OK, So I joined the pack of rats over at swamp rat knives. Don't tell anyone that I'm a hog too.

I saw this in Ebay, apparently made a limited run, but aren't made anymore. It's close to 52100 ball bearing steel, and is 10 5/8 inches at the blade. The handle feels great. 1/4 inch spine. Originally intended as my user/survival, but I can't bring myself to take her virginity away. This is still new, but bought as a used knife.

Njoy....

Yes, another sharpened prybar. I like that name. Not just a knife, but a prybar too! Getting the leatherman sheath.

I'm just thinking that in the future, I may want to sell my investment in pristine condition. That's really why I'm really reclutant to use them.

Rats sell quite well used, so do Busses, but very few make users of LE's.

IIRC the RD is a CG. Use it and enjoy it. Rats are really meant to be used. Keep the LE as an investment, the LE will never be made again, even though the FSH's will.

Been following your post's for a bit and was wondering when you would finally get around to Swamp Rat and Busse. Welcome to the addiction. LOL

I just cringe when I put knives to my usual test of "Is it a need or a want"? I do answer myself honestly and say that this is just the exception.

No, you misunderstand. With all the post of 'toughest' and 'strongest' and so on, I figured it was just a matter of time before you found the really toughest and strongest.

Hey, whang the hell out of that Rat Daddy! If you don't like it, I'll buy it off you. I didn't have the funds when they were available, but that doesn't mean I don't want one. If some coating is missing no big deal to me. I've been using Rats for ~3 years and Busse about 2 1/2 or so.

If you could find a Busse or Rat in a size to replace your Striders (they do exist), your quest would be answered in a heartbeat. You just have to think in terms of carrying an open folder. My Active Duty has the same(blade) shape, length and profile as a Large Classic Sebbie and is 1/2" shorter than the opened Sebbie. More thickness to the blade (not much), but way more able to take what the sebbie would in a stressful situation. Much easier to deploy also. Why flick a blade when all you have to do is grab the handle?

You've found the best, see if they will work for you.

Look around for some EDC size blades that you can carry to work and such. Know whatImean?

E/M me at wetdog1911@aol.com if you care to.

I've just been contacted by Trace Rinaldi tonight about an Armageddon he may be finishing in the next few months. I feel better that he has contacted me regarding this blade and thus the Rat Daddy will indeed become my user in the large knife category. Now my usual paranoia and anxiety about things begins again after reading the 3V will rust in a hearbeat, although it may be the toughest steel out there.

My buddy at work is with you on the EDC being a fixed blade. I never thought that I'd get a small fixed but it looks like I'm going that way. He says for the same reasons as you, that it's tougher than a folder and faster to deploy.

Damn, gotta spend more money. When will I ever get ahead.

I wouldn't say "heartbeat". It hasn't rusted in patches or immediately stained when used to cut up acidic fruits, but does develop tiny pinhole rusting if unprotected. So far this seems entirely cosmetic, and is probably easily taken care with minimal care (mine was worn as a small neck knife and not oiled or protected for the first few weeks). It hasn't gotten any worse since I first noticed the pinholes and started lightly oiling the blade.
