anybody have one of these, and what are your thoughts on it? it looks pretty sweet, but its sort of a unique style. also, what would be a good sheath for that? thanks.

The best place for questions like these would be Swamp Rat Knives forum. There's a thread there now on Rat Tail Concealex! by Normark, who is a first-class sheath maker.

I've held one and it is very nice for a small knife. If it's legal in your area, it would make a great utility EDC.

Sounds good, i will read up on what they have to say in that forum. Anything is legal in CA really, just depends on how you carry it. For a fixed blade it has to be in a sheath on the belt.

I really like the way the rat tail looks, just not quite sure if i like it enough to buy it over a nimravus, fallkniven, or dozier, which are the other three i have been looking at for a fixed blade EDC.

I wouldn't look at the Rat Tail as a parallel to a Dozier, which is in another class altogether. Did you have any particular Doziers in mind? They are all great. I have the immense KS-7 Wilderness Knife and the K-20 Canoe, set up as a neck knife. Some day I'd like to get the Arkansas Toothpick. I really like the way that handles.

I was looking at the bodyguard that is for sale on knifeart for $195. Someone recommended it in another thread where i asked about a fixed blade EDC.

Check out the Bob Dozier Knives website under Military/Tactical, where the Bodyguard and Arkansas Toothpick are the KM-5 and KM-6, one after another, very similar. The BG has a blockier handle, the AT's more rounded. Otherwise, same price, same size, very handy knives.

Esav is more than correct about the Doziers being in a different class than the Swamp Rats. Way different price points too. The Rats are very tough utility knives and offer probably the best bang for the buck out there. The Doziers are beautiful, extremely well made and crafted and much more expensive. But, also a very good value for what you get. Actually an excellent value.

Either one would be a good choice depending on what you want to spend. I can't comment on the other ones you mentioned as I have no experience with them.
