Hello-

New to this forum, so far, Im hooked! I have a Swamp Rat folder ( what I am seeing called a Rat Trap). I can not find any other info on them out there. I waould like to know general info as far as how old it is, how many were made, how desirable they are in the resale market, if anyone else has one, etc. It was an EDC for some years in college, I just can not remember when/where I picked this thing up. Its been a safe queen for about the past 5-6 years I think. I should get it out and snap some pics, but the wife has the picture-taking device. Instead Ill get it out and look at it for the first time in years....oh yeah, now I know why I bought this thing, cause its FREAKIN B.A!

Thanks for any and all info!!!!!!!!

The Swamp Rat "Rat Trap" is the only folder ever produced by Busse Knife Group (Busse Combat, Swamp Rat, Scrap Yard).

The Rat trap was actually manufactured by Blade-Tech in the USA for Swamp Rat Knife Works. They went pre-sale in late September 2004 at ~$130 and were discontinued August 31st 2006. You might have to call the Swamp to learn how many were made in those 2 years. They now sell on the secondary market for ~$300 (sometimes more) and disappear quickly, i.e. market value is high as is demand.
Search bladeforums for "Rat Trap" and you'll find lots of threads and posts about them.

Thanks a ton for the info! I think I will be putting this up on the exchange forum as soon as the wife brings the camera home tonight. Didnt know if there was any interest, but from the sounds of things, this is a semi-exclusive, semi-desirable knife.

Definitely a sweet knife, however Id expect much more out of a proper Busse product. Much, much more, almost too much. And I think Busse probably feels the same way. Fixed blade Busses redefined the idea of what a knife is, so the expectation is very high for a folder. So a perfectly amazing product might still be a letdown if its just another high quality knife.

I think it would have to be something totaly outstanding for them to even consider it.
