Swamp Rat Recomendations?

I've decided I need a Swamp Rat. I don't quite know WHY I need one, but they seem like the type of thing everybody needs at least one of.

Right now I'm leaning towards the Howling Rat . . . but I also like the looks of the Rat Tail, and the D2 Big Dog also looks interesting, but I don't know if I want to wait 8-12 weeks for delivery like the website says.

Any recomendations from current Swamp Rat owners?

I like every blade you mention, and recommend all of them. :) The Howling Rat is a favorite of many people, and and eminently useful knife all way 'round. The Rat Tail makes for a neat neck knife--if you decide to go that route we can give you a list of guys to make the sheath.

I don't know when the Bog Dog is going to come out. If I heard right, Blade magazine ran the add for it before they were supposed to, and the Swamp wasn't quite ready to deliver them in bulk. When they get here, they'll be well worth it, but if you're wanting a Swamp Rat NOW, then you'll need to pick another model.

Sorry I can't be more help, but all they make are excellent knives, so in the end it's up to you. Happy choosing. ;)

I'm going for the Camp Tramp or the Battle Rat. Rambo says "Battle Rat", a $20 difference says Camp Tramp :D

I'm very happy with my Howling Rat. I especially like the Resperine C handles. They are very comfortable. I'm also a big fan of the Bandicoot. I wouldn't use it for skinning game but as hard use EDC I've been pleased with it.

I'd go with the Howling Rat.

Unlike the Bog Dog it's available and (though that is based only on the look) I think the Handle is probably more comfortable than the Rat Tails.
