I was under the impression that Scrapyard did not use the same steel as the Swamp but I see that the 1111 indeed uses SR101. Is this the exact same steel and heat treat used by the Swamp? So far I've been very impressed with the durability and edge retention of the KDSH and was looking at a large chopper such as the Junglas but the Scrapyards 1111 looks fairly similar and I like the idea of the res-c handle and the SR101.

Worldwood helped push me over toward sticking with the SR101 and the price of the 1111 seems very good to boot. Just wondering if its every bit as durable and holds the edge as well as Swamps steel.

Thank you.

1111 will be a wonderful choice bro!!!

Its all one big family :D Busse/Swamp/Scrapyard

Swamp uses SR101, Scrapyard uses the same SR101, same heat treat and all...

Well actually i hear than Dan uses whatever he can take from the other guys LMAO

Scrapyard used to use SR-77 (Son Of Dog Father, Dog Father, Scrapper 6, Dumpster Mutt, Scrapizashi and others), before they turned to SR-101.

Go for the 1111. Better steel. Better handle ergonomics. Better weight forward balance for chopping.

Scrapyard can and has used any steel that is high performance and can be had at an awesome price. They have used 154CM, Elmax, Sandvik 12C27, SR-77, SR-101, INFI and possibly some others that I've missed.

Dan Busse just posted at the Yard that the 711 is being taken out of production due to lack of suitable pieces of steel to make them from, so this ultimately can influence what is available in the shop and for how long.

Thanks for the responses. aaaa_cccc....you mention them using different steels.....this throws me off just a little because I'm pretty set on the SR101. Should I be concerned of a different steel being used without knowing?

Another question.....do they differentially heat treat or through harden their blades? Thanks again

Im not A_C but no you dont need to worry, Right now they are using SR101 on the 1111, and they wouldnt substitute the steel on you or anything.

He is saying they have used those steels in the past on other models, Not the 1111.

No worries bro!! That 1111 will be a BEAST. Far better choice IMO over the Junglas and RTAK2.

Thanks WW.....and thanks again for the other responses. I might have to let the wife go on a spending spree this weekend so I can "Scrap" out and order the 1111 and scrapivore CG. I'm really digging that CG for another necker

I like the scrapivore quite a bit But i dont use it as a neck knife, more of a back up knife... it goes in here......

It`s a darn shame with the 711- hard to beat that one in "most bang for the bucks", knife. RIP.

You will LOVE the 1111! I still think its the best bang for the buck you can get!

I simply could not let this go from the Santa Gaanza:

Just waiting on a sheath from Mr. Brown... ;)

I'd say go 1111 all the way!
Junglas is around 4 RC softer, meant for green vegetation not for actual chopping of wood.
1111 on the other hand is a chopping machine!

Thanks again for everyone's help. Don't know if I will be able to go through with the ordering process quite yet. Last night I came home from work to find out that we were broken into and robbed. Very late night with police and insurance. Much of my wifes jewelry was taken......her iPad......a laptop........TV was destroyed.......2 of my prototype VTAC tomahawks sent straight from the owner of Fehrman tools to me to test were taken and and boat load of cash.

Pretty emotional night. Hopefully insurance pulls through and we will be back on track with everything except for peace of mind.

Thanks again for the help with my questions. WW.....sorry if I've not responded if you've emailed......that was all done from the iPad which is now gone.

SB, sorry to hear about the break in. Hope the insurance covers all the losses.

Which one used 12C27? One of my favorite old school steels! I had no idea.
