has anyone had an especially difficulty in sharpening a swamp rat knife i use dmt diafold stoned i start with coarse graduating to fine and i cant get a shaving sharp edge on my swamp rat,ive tried varying angles so much to the point ive resahped the blade a bit i have no problem getting a shaving sharp edge on some crkt,k-bar,and sog knives that i own but the howling rat just wont do it i can get a burr but it wont get shaving sharp any suggestions would be apprciated thanks for your time

Maybe you should try it not stoned?

Take a sharpie marker and mark the cutting bevel and then run it across the stone a couple of times. Make sure you are actually sharpening the edge this way. If you are not hitting the edge you're gonna have to re profile it to your desired angle. If the angle is wrong you can sharpen all day an not improve the actual knife sharpness at all.

lol belive me its not convex anymore,i mean it cuts skin with no pressure at all,but i cant get it shaving sharp lime my other blades i cn get a burr and when i polich on the 1200 ex-fine grit side of the diamond stone it just wont hone to hair popping sharp i was wondering if maybe this was sort of a common problem with these knives,a wonderful knife and its sharp as can be for any task except it wont shave a hair, lol i wont give up until i either get the desired edge or turn my knife into a ice pick, but thanks for the replies

I say be patient and keep at it. Blade steel is basically 52100 ball bearing steel, and should take and hold an excellent edge.

Try using very light pressure honing strokes, edge forwards, alternating sides, on the finer side of your diafold as you finish your sharpening. Try stropping the blade on leather after you hone.
