I picked up a nice user Swamp Rat Tali-Whacker LE that needs a sharpening (it will barely slice paper) My sharpening experience is limited to my Sharpmaker on my folders and I have not sharpened any bussekin before my attempt at sharpening the TW on my sharpmaker. I put black sharpie on the edge and used the grey rods at the 40 degree setting, the black sharpie line was removed but I am not getting the edge sharper. Thoughts on getting the TW LE razor sharp again? Thanks in advance for any advise.

Is that 40° inclusive or 40° per side? If it's inclusive then strop it, if it isn't then it should be 20° per side.

It is 40 degrees inclusive. I believe the TW LE is a V grind rather than convex, am I correct? That's why I was hoping the Sharpmaker set at 40 degrees inclusive would do the trick.

The way I sharpen them is on the Sharp maker, just keep the angles consistent till it starts to “bite” you will feel it start to sound different rather than just glide along.

About 20 strokes per side, then finish with the white stones.

Feel if there is a burr built up if there is run it lightly across the stones.

A strop is also a great investment.

Hope that helps.

I do not do the really involved stuff some of the guys (no harm in that thought) and mine have cut fine for over 15 years.

Build a little wire edge and knock it off of the knife and you should be fine to cut quite a bit.

INFI is a little weird that way.
