Swamp Rat vs. Scrap Yard

I've had my heart set on a Ratweiler or an M7 for quite a while because of Swamp Rat's reputation, but just checked out the Scrapyard website. Both sites seem to offer the same guarantee, but Scrapyard is selling their Scrapper 6 for $80 less than the M6. Sure it's different steel, but other than that, what's the difference? I don't particularly want to spend $180 on a knife, but I'm having trouble trusting Scrapyard at that price. Any info would be welcome.

The Scrapyard SR77 steel is cheaper, and won't hold an edge quite as long, but it should be a bit more impact resistant than SR101.

Aside from the Steel differences, the Resiprene C handle/stick tang is much cheaper to produce, vs the Micarta slabs/full tang which requires a lot more work to make.

The Scrap Yard knives are an incredible value.

Overall I'm looking for a knife that will stand up to heavy abuse over a long period of time. I know I'm not getting the Scrapper6 because I already have a 4" lockback for small jobs. I'm hoping that Scrapyard will come out with something along the lines of the Ratweiler. I want something that can do some decent chopping (campfires, logs, etc.) and will replace a hatchet, but is still managable enough for easy use. I really like the chopping extension on the handle of the Rat (supposedly it gives the effectiveness of a 10" blade) and don't see it on the Scrappers. I guess I could just go for a Scrapper 9 (unless they make an 8).

Everything I've heard about Ranger knives is good & everything I've heard about the owner, Justin is even better - you can't go wrong

Has anyone here actually abused a ranger? It's sounding better and better, but I saw pics of a howling rat taking off a car door. That's really impressive. I don't plan on doing anything really extreme to it, but it's nice to have that security (and bragging rights), lol. I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but I'm a poor college student and would like whatever I pay for to last for quite a while.

SwampRat, ScrapYard, Ranger, Ontario RAT, Becker BK9 My guess is any of these will last a lifetime. All are good tough useable knives.

Excuse me sir would you like 11 mega tons or 10 megatons?

I have a Ranger RD9 I've beat the crap out of, the fit and finnish is not as good as Swamp Rat. Whan I got my RD9 the edge was very thick I thinned it down and sharpend it, it's a great knife for the price.
I prefer Swamp Rat over the other knives, but the bigger ones are hard to find and cost a arm and a leg if you do find one.
Get a Ranger knife and use it untill the new big Swamp Rats come out. I don't have a Scrapyard knife Yet, I'm wating untill the big ones come out SR77 should make a great chopper.

I beaten my Ranger Rd9 pretty hard and it keeps begging for more!!

I just ordered a custom from Justin at Ranger knives and I cant wait to get it!!

I just got a Scrapper 6, so I cant comment on how tuff it is, but so far I would give it a thumbs up!!
