Thinking of getting the Howling Rat, Bandicoot or Bog Dog any opinions. Do you have to pay extra for sheath?

From memory, the Bandicoot and Howler come with sheaths. You have to buy a sheath for the Bog Dog. This is made clear on the order page.

The Bog Dog is made out of D2, and is an excellent slicer. It is very tough, but not as tough as the Howler or Bandicoot (which are made of SR101/52100).

The Howler and Bandicoot are extremely tough and sharp, and the Res C handles are comfortable.

My favorite is the Howler, and I'll probably get around to buying a Bog Dog.

Buy which ever one takes your fancy. You can't go wrong with a Rat.

it would all depend on what you want, i have a camp tramp and can attest to SR 101 being an outstanding steel. i have also seen in the swamp rat forums here what a good heat treat can do to D2 i suggest you check that out as well. basically id say pick the blade design you like the most and go for it. SRKW stands 110% behind their products the wait can suck sometimes but its still outstanding product

Erik just announsed new Bog Dog - with micarta handle. This looks more and more like early Busse models.

Thanks, Vassili.

I had all 3 and the Howler is my favorite with the Bog Dog a close second. This is purely because I like the Howler blade shape better. If they ever make one in D2, I'll be all over it like white on rice. The Bog Dog is a better slicer with the thinner blade.

Bandicoots, I had 4. 3 Inficoots and one standard. Just never cared for the blade shape for my uses. Others love them, but that's why they make more than on model.

Yes, there could be a wait. SRKW uses Busse equipment on nights and weekends and it's not that large of a shop. The quality received is worth the wait.

Most people are saying there is a long wait to get a Rat. How long should I expect to wait? How long did it take you guys to get yours?

About 9 weeks for RatTrap LE. But I have no problem with this until I realise that it is just not shipped yet, but not lost somewhere.

Thanks, Vassili

If I'm correct, Rats are made in batches of whatever model is up at that point in time. Could be a HR or BR or whatever is on the schedule. What is not been ordered is put in inventory. If the knife you order is in inventory it is shipped very quickly. If they are out of stock, you have to wait till the next batch is made. I've had shipping times vary from as little as a few days to several months. Usually the standard line is in good supply and ships quickly. But even the standard line sells out and SRKW will not lower quality standards for the sake of increased production.

A quick E/M to Eric at the Swamp and he can pretty much let you know what's up with whatever model you're interested in, like if it's in stock or the approximate wait.

Rob

The shipping times can slip, and it can be frustrating. They usually say 8 - 12 weeks, and that's been the case for me. The knives are definitely worth the wait (I love my Bandicoot), and Eric is a real stand up guy. Any slippages are from honest scheduling issues and backlog, never did I feel the company was in any way "shining me on".

Just give Eric an email with a question, he'll give you the straight scoop right away.
