So River8, Myself, and some other SAR Team Rat/Hog lovers went out on the mountain for a little SAR training. We knew is was going to be good when we found THIS!

Yes, we harvested them all..

I believe River8 went back, dug up the tree, and transplanted it in his backyard.

Needless to say, my new Muddy Ratweiler and Mischief6 got well baptised this weekend!

The handle that looks like a SH is actually a HH FSH with a Busse modded handle eliminating the birds beak in favor of a rounded pommel. This is better for pommell striking with a baton to split kindling with the point. It's a very nice mod and does look exactly like straight handle geometry.

Very cool pics, Mike! I wish I could've made it out there with you guys...looks like you all had a great time with your new RATS! :D

Rescue Mike,
I am curious where you were. I live in Vancouver (Wa) and own a cabin near Mt St. Helens. Your picture looks alot like the areas I hunt and hike in. I was a member of an Expoler Group shearch and rescue team out of Vancouver in the early 60's. Our training was mostly about Nuclear War Survival, etc. Not much use now. I have spent many days in G.P. I was a Scout Master for 30 years and we did most of our hiking and camping in the Cascades. Looks like you guys had fun. I got my first SwampRat (Howling Rat) and First Scrapyard (S6 LE) plus a Gamewarden (2nd Busse) at Blade West last Saturday.

We were up in the Gifford Pinchot NF, so it is indeed familiar terrain for you out of Vancouver. We were up north of Stevenson off the 65 Road. Beautiful and NOT well traveled country up there. It was a 24 hr pack test to prove 24 hour search sustainablity and to dial in our kits hosted by Wind River SAR and attended by our esteemed colleagues at Silver Star SAR

Wow! I've got a HH FSH and I couldn't identify it in the picture. I hope more pictures of that one make it out someday. I'm curious!

We spend a lot of time with our grandkids off the the 65 road. Spent two weekends in August picking huckleberries probably very close to where you were. I have many nights in the Indian Heavens and near Goose Lake. In my younger days we spent alot of time cross country skiing in the same area.
There are times when that area is not so empty, like Elk season..
I used to have friends in the Silver Star SAR, but I am afraid those days have past for me.
Thanks for your service, hope I never need it.
