What type of steel is SR101? Has anyone had any experience using and sharpening this steel? What are it's good points and bad points?

Many people have suggested that is is very close to 52100. My Battle Rat performs like a high carbon blade anyway.

Actually, unless I'm mistaken, it is 52100 that's just been heat treated VERY carefully, to bring out the properties of that steel that were deemed best. They describe it here.

Excellent performer all the way around, and I highly recommend it if you haven't tried it. Keep it oiled though! :)

It is close to 52100 in composition, more importantly it has a quality heat treatment, spring spine, hard edge with a very high quality control level all backed up by a solid warrenty which supports frank and honest performance from the manufacturer.

Its good points are that it is a very solid workhorse steel with a very high overall durablity due to the spring temper. Its weak points are that since it isn't an optomized steel various niche steels will outperform it at specific tasks.

M2 for example can get harder and offer more wear resistance at the cost of a much lower ductility and toughness. Something like A8 is much tougher (edge wise anyway) but is not as hard and doesn't have near the wear resistance.

I keep telling myself I have to get a Swamp Rat knife. I'm thinking either the Camp Tramp or the Battle Rat.
