Hello all, I'm new to the forum and just wanted to say hi and get a few tidbits of information.

Defining my bladed tools by design and maker is not a new concept for me nor is the way a well constructed piece of metal and wood seem to flow together and puts a smile on your face.

Im really enjoying digging through the great information supplied in this forum and the thread about the cruisers was great but it begs the question: What is a "swamper"?

Hello again and thanks!

A pattern of double bit axe that was originally used for "swamping" out a skid road for horse and oxen dragging out the logs. As in cutting all the small stumps, roots, saplings etc that might hang the log up. it was expected to take a lot of abuse chopping close to the ground and most of the old ones show it. Later it became the general purpose forestry fire box, landing man, log truck equipment etc axe in the Northwest woods. Two fairly wide flaring edges of equal size and shape. 36-inch handle.

Sidehill Gouger.... Thanks for the info. Now I can put a intended purpose with the name.

Trailmaker.... on a side note... did you find out any more info on that powr-kraft? I just recently came into the same model and am looking for some history.
