New to fixed blades. How do these 3 compare? They all seem made by the same people. Blades are fairly similar in size and mostly clip or drop points .25 inches thick. How do their steels sr77, sr101, INFI compare? Looking for a 6-7 inch blade, drop point, good for camping but useful for self defense with a strong, stain resistant, not impossible to field sharpen. Built to last. Like a Strider. Could go up to $400 but why if I dont have to? Which would you choose?

Scrapyard is by far the more affordable way to go. They are all made by the Busse family and the steel is all great. I like to look of the Busse's but you can't go wrong with a SY. I have several of each brand and they are all work horse's. My favorite is the SY 6. It is strong and very durable. It also holds a edge and is very easy to maintain. However the Ratweiler by Swamprat is also a very good competitor in the line that you are look at.

they are all great blades ...I own all 3 brands but my budget is more around the Swamprat & Scrapyard blades... if you buy either brand & the design that fits you ,how can you go wrong...

thanks for the info. have been snooping around the websites and stores, am realizing not many knives for sale (I'm not in Spydercoland anymore). Awesome stuff need to jump when knives available. Steve

I was in the same boat as you, and decided on swamprat, got a ratmandu and a swamp warden, very cool blades. I haven't really used them yet (no trees up here) but they seem like they are very tough blades. Of course I now want some infi and a scrapyard as well.:D

I own a Swamp Rat HRLM and a Busse FFBM, and i couldn't be happier with either one.
though its tough to compare the two knive because of the size difference, it's safe to say that Busse prices are a little higher for a good reason

Low on cash? Scrapyard.

Tentative about high dollar blades but want a taste? SRKW.

Ready for a big boy blade with an attitude? Busse Combat all the way!!

INFI is the best knife steel available today. Period.

You will pay for having that. I only own 2 Busse Combat blades. 2 of the Busse Scotch Dispenser. they are smaller EDC/self defense blades and i carry them daily. I love them. Favorite knife.

I have a few scrapyard and swamp rat blades too. I really dont know which i like better. SR77 is a tougher steel than Sr101 but it does have as good of edge retention as sr101 does. INFI is above and beyond both sr77 and sr101. but ANY of the 3 busse family steels are better than ANYTHING else you will find in the knife world.

you can get a piece of INFI if you buy a Busse Scotch Dispenser, for under 200 bucks and it will be a blade that you will probably carry with you all the time. :) look into it

every blade in this pic is SY/SR/Busse,my little collection all blade under $200 or less except the Batac(2nd blade Green/Black)

The Exchange here is FULL of great blades from Scrap Yard, Swamp Rat and Busse. Buyers market right now too. Great deals there!!

It's all good.

Use the Force.

Buy all the knives you can afford.

You'll be broke like the rest of us but very happy too.

Better than anything??? I have 50 K I'm willing to drop, against this statement, any takers?

I like Scrapyard for gig knives because their steel is tougher and the handles absorb shock better.

I like Swamprats for smaller blades because they have excellent edge retention and micarts is nice on a smaller knife.

Busse is great for everything but I find them a bit pricey. I do like smaller hard use knives like the Cultules.

Fastcamo,

Busse has had a long standing challenge to any knife maker willing to take their knives head to head in a live demonstration. There have been no takers.

Could this be the year?

actually joules I did make a challenge offer and the thread was personally closed by Jerry.
But I'm also not here to start a fight either, the Busse family blades are all good, and I even have a few and will continue to collect them.. but if you really look around there are many steels out there that reign supreme among the top being used, but price is also an issue, which at some point isn't even viable for the market. I however am trying to overlook that issue and am in the process of making it a possibility, you can start at the bottom of the pile with a standard name SRS60 made by Kobe steel, which the famous tough 5160 isn't even close to, with a spring rate failure 4 times below the SRS60 series, and I'm using stuff that is 8 times better than that ya just have to shop around, but yeah, I have a few blades i made, and have 150 ready in a few months that will be for sale. Which i wont release the steel type yet. but of course in the meantime like i said I have 50K for a heads up challenge, I was just commenting on his "better than ANYTHING" remark he stated, nothing more than that.

Fastcamo,

I have no doubt that your knives are spectacular, but you say you only have a few and are very secretive about even the steel used. You have to admit, that's hardly cause for anyone to waver on their current beliefs.

Not having seen differently, my current belief is this:
Busse SwampRat and Scrapyard are better than ANYTHING else out there.

Perhaps there will be a challenge someday, That's between you and Jerry. I'd be interested to see it. If your knives are even half as good as you believe, no doubt they will sell very well for you. Heck, I'd probably buy a couple. It's all about the knives.

Good luck in your endeavor, Sir.
