Swapping blades on Hold Out III

I prefer the aggressive texture of the old style G-10 on my Hold Out III so I tried swapping blades with my XHP version this morning. Worked perfectly! Only the blades were swapped as they have changed the pivot pin location on the lock bar and the pins are different due to the slightly thinner G-10 on the new version. The swap works both ways so you end up with two perfectly working knives. No cannibalization of parts. Because of this, make sure you check the etchings on the blade for the CTS XHP marking if you are buying a 2015 model second hand or from an unfamiliar source.

Good tips! Thanks for sharing!
A lot of people has been wondering about doing the same with the American Lawman here.

There are etchings of which steel? My recons in aus8 and xhp aren't marked where i can see anything...but i haven't taken them apart to see if there are hidden markings? Are only some models marked? Thank you Sir.

The Hold Out and Lawman are marked CTS XHP on the blade tang. My Mini Recon and Voyager are marked on the side of the blade. I don't think any of the AUS 8 blades were marked with the steel type. IIRC some of the early Recons went out without the XHP markings, but they still have the DLC coating.

understood. good info, thanks.

yeah my recon xhp had the old school box with an added sticker by cold steel on it showing the blade steel and some kind of "hand checked by Mr. Thompson" sticker on it too....i guess it was an early version?
