In a local "Army depot" (read that as they have everything from A to Z)
I saw this boots for a ridicously low 40 $...
Are they of any use or just look-a-likes...

They're called : Swat boots Life-Line (life line is the brand).
I'm looking for such a boot, but it's difficult to order online in US shops, those shoe-sizes are not always what they say...

Wouter,

I have never worn that brand, but for just a bit more money you can get Rocky's or Hi-tec's on sale. Both brands are a known commodity.

Galls Police supply ( a major player in that market) also sells their own light weight assault boot for close to $40, on-line, and offers a no hassle return if the boots don't fit.

Just so you know, most boots of this type cannot be resoled and generally last about a year of moderate abuse.

Take Care,
Jeff

Hi Wouter-

Ya' gets what ya' pays fer' when making footwear purchases...

In my experience it is worth paying a bit more upfront when making an investment in footwear and simultaneously obtaining more quality. You'll soon forget the low initial price of these boots when the soles are peeling off in a few short weeks! Good luck in your boot search.

Problem is, ordering from Belgium in the US takes a while, and when the boots don't fot, ok no-return policy is nice, but waiting another few weeks is too much. In the end, I will spend more time with ordering boots than time to wear them out.
Those Swat boots are just to do light work-jobs.
( I have a pair of Meindl Alpinist High tech mountain boots with kevlar sole and adapter for ice-picks... Really ideal for heavy walking...)

Any suggestions about websites that are worth checking ? (I'm not really familiar with American brands...)

Wouter,

Galls.com should have everthing you are looking for in a lightweight assault boot.

Take Care,
Jeff

I agree. The more you pay for footwear the longer they last. If you find good footwear, buy two pairs and wear them in daily turn. They will last you three times longer than one pair as they get a chance to dry out.
