Swayback opening

Does anyone else have trouble opening it smoothly? I'm not even trying to flick it open, which seems impossible to me anyway. I absolutely love this knife & I have seen most complaints about it online are with the pocket clip; like it shouldn't have one. My main & only gripe is that I feel the Ti near the opening hole should have been ground down/back a little further for better access to the opening hole. It just feels like I have to jam my thumb in there to open it & it's not a smooth process at all. IDK, maybe I just have fat thumbs. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Almost all of my other Spydercos will open when I flick along the X axis. With the Swayback I have to flick along the Y axis.

Love this knife, I open it with my ring finger in reverse grip.

I don’t understand the x-y axis bit ?

I own a lot of autos & balis and seldom feel the need to "finger flick" any of my Spydercos but when I do want to "flick" a Spydie, I will always choose a comp lock model to do it with because they are so easy to open with a flick of the wrist & a quick press/release of the lock tab.

Flicking the blade South instead of flicking the blade West. Or flicking the blade to 6:00 instead of 9:00.

It opens easily for me; flicking isn't too hard either. If you stick your thumb in with the nail facing forwards towards the pivot, it should be easy to get it in and slow roll it open, pushing perpendicularly out from the handle. To flick it open, I kind of arc my thumb forwards parallel to the handle.

I did take the clip off mine and found it more comfortable since it doesn't dig into my finger when flicking open. I might add a more comfortable clip later, but I kind of like it clipless right now, could work well with a leather slip a la Sebenza.

These are great knifes. I have seen some selling around $150 on the exchange and that is an excellent price for these.

Yep, that's how much Spyderco was clearing them out for at the last in person Seconds Sale!

This was the proto and you can see the clip is much less obtrusive.

I actually don't mind the factory clip. I'll probably get a deep carry one for it anyway though. My main gripe is access to the thumbhole. I just wish it was a little bit larger.

I ended up adding a titanium clip off Aliexpress and it's much more comfortable now. The clip doesn't quite contact the scale at the end but I could bend it later.

Really impressed with this knife, it reminds me of a Chris Reeve Sebenza more than any other knife I've tried, and it's noticeably more slicey than my other knives. I've started cutting more things backwards because of it and realized that push cuts give you a lot of control and precision, especially for things like paracord.
