Can anyone explain the batch of commanders that were recently swedged. Or am I just making this up. I lost my old commander and I need to replace it and I would love to pick up one with the swedge.
T

IIRC, Emerson said it was due to consumer demand to bring the swedge back on a few models.

All regular production models will now be swedged with stonewashed flats. I've seen a Commander, A-100 and 10 swedged and stonewashed so far.

Thanks for the responses guys. How do I know that the commander I am ordering is swedged or not. (Aside from asking the dealer?) ie. Is there a different model number? Oh yeah anybody have any pics of the new swedged models?
T

Asking your dealer is probably the best way to know what you're getting. I would definitely do that. I don't know if model numbers were changed or not. So, if you want the swedge, asking is your best bet. Sorry, no pics.

Mr Emerson has a video on youtube of the shot show and he said the new knives have swedges on it because the demand was so high. So I think it will become a permanent thing. Looks great to me!

Yeah, it's permanent. The request was for one or two models. I forget which ones. I think one of them was the Commander. And Mr. Emerson decided to make them all swedged.

The Commies do look much better swedged IMO, same with the 8s

I have generally disliked emersons due to their black coated blade and ghetto thumb disk opening mechanism but that Commander with the blade hole and satin finish looks so much better! I might have to try one now! Don't mind the swedge either. YAY!

The pic in that link is a CQC-10 by the way, the opening hole is only on the CQC-10 and Kerambits.

That 10 does look good with the swedge and stone washed blade though

Oh sad I wanted a commander with a thumb hole. Maybe emerson will remedy that for me one day.

I have a stonewashed swedged Commander in the mail. It is one of the misspelled ones. The engraver spelled Commander wrong and used only one M. keepem sharp

That engraver needs a dictionary. I don't think this is the first time this has happened.
Does the misspelling add any collector value to the knives?

Beats me but mine came today. It is stone washed/satin finished with Comander misspelled. Oh yea swedge too. This is the way they should have been made from the beginning as far as I am concerned. As sharp as any knife out of the box I have owned to date. Perfectly done. Thick liner etc. etc. I'll post a pic later. keepem sharp

I think the the first Commanders were swedged.
I doubt that there will be any added value to the mispeled Komandirs.

If its an EKI and it is different I am sure there will demand down the road for one. Just seems to be the way EKI's are. It is a super fine knife though regardless of how anything is spelled on it. Fit and finish is great and the finish on the blade with the swedge is really nice. keepem sharp

PS I noticed also that the action was not gritty at all. Not like my other EKI's I have had that had that grittiness to them. There is a pic of it in the show me your Emerson's thread
