Hello,

I will be going to Sweden after Christmas (by plane) and I am wondering what the current knife laws there are? I heard they were changed this summer, and I have no idea where to find out about this now.

So, does anyone know if I can take my Leatherman and Spyderco Civilian with me (in the checked baggage)?

Thanks,
Kris

Hello!

Shouldn't be a problem to get them with you in checked baggage, but carry of the Civilian is a NO the Leatherman should'nt be any problem.

Keep everything covered, do not carry if going to any club.
Behave as a gentleman and you'll have no problems.

E-mail me if anything else at: army@home.se

Hello 2Sharp,

thanks for the answer (eller rättare sagt, tack så mycket)! Hmm, I wonder if that swedish letter survives this...

Well it seems I have to behave then

, but I am glad to hear the laws have not become totally paranoid up there yet.

Thanks, and "god jul"!

not very common here...

wat too few Swedes.

I think that the laws are way off as any knife is illegal to carry, unless you have a "need" for'em, used in your work etc. to bad that objects gets blamed for peoples shortcomings.

Be careful! that Civilian is a great knife!

Hej Kris. I agree with 2Sharp.

The last year I´ve been travelling between Prague and Göteborg for several times and I´ve always had a knife by me. Sometimes as a personal carry knife, sometimes as a luggage one.

I have been stopped once. In Denmark, carrying a Puma Cub lock blade at 2" blade!! The reason for it was that it was indeed a lock back. If the blade were to be a non-locking one there wouldn´t be a problem!!

In other words; the lenght of the blade was not that big an issue as the locking system was!!! Consider this and good luck!

dePaul: I´ll consider that. Luckily I can avoid the crazy Danes using the plane (no offense to any Danes here, I spent my entire childhood with their Lego toys

Welcome to Sweden , Kris .
As Jonas (2Sharp) tells you , there should not be any problems with the Leatherman ( I haven´t had any with mine ) . I have also carried my Gerber AR 3.00 some times in daytime , but NEVER to a pub , restaurant , club etc. in the evening .
The law is written in such way that you are " not allowed to carry a knife if your purpose is to use it for something illegal " .
Clear and precise , uh ??
Carry the knives wisely and I don´t think there will be any problems .
Happy Holidays and a Happy New Knife Year !
