Just got a catalog from Coleman's Military Surplus (www.colemans.com) (Item 3217) and they are listing an unused, 30-inch blade, Swedish Military Bow saw for $17.95. Has anyone seen or bought this saw, if so what are your opinion of it? Thanks, John

I've bought some from another source a few years ago. I like them. Heavy-duty frame, not ideal for backpacking but strong and solid. The distance from the blade to the frame is more than the typical 30" bowsaw, about the same as the 36" ones from Bahco.

The original blades from Sweden are very good. The plain tooth pattern on mine works fine for me in green wood as well as dry wood.

Used ones are currently available from another place at half the price, and I got some of these too (they are sold in pairs). The blades aren't as good, and the paint jobs are banged up, but still worth the money IMHO.

That's the most important thing about a bow saw. Too often the frame gets in the way. High frames require stronger steel. I've about given up on bow saws since pull saws have become so good.
