OHHHH MAN!!!
This thing is sweet! A really tought hatchet for alot less than the model by Busse!
About 90% of the time I use a fixed blade for chopping because there are not many super tough hatchets out there that appeal to me.
I can't stand those hollow metal handled ones with the rubber grip, they always seem to break!
If you can't already tell, I am very excited! Way to go Swamp Rat!
:p :) :D

How long is delivery time on these items including there other knives? Aren't they being made when the regular production factory is closed or something to that effect?

K man: how heavy is it? Have you try chopping things that you would do when you go camping?
I have a Kershaw that's pretty light (about the same as the Gerber Campax, but longer, hence better swing) but if the Swamp Rat chops well and remain to be light, I'll take it when I can.

Go now! Go quickly!

The introductory offer only lasts a week (or the first 300 orders, whichever comes first).

2 15/16" blade length
9 1/4" overall length

Eric mentioned in his post that it fit pretty well in his back pocket (I'm assuming the head, when in sheath).

Mine should be here next week! This looks like a great camp companion.

I really like my Swamp Rat Camp Tramp, though I haven't chopped up anything with it yet. This hatchet looks interesting, defenitely compact; I would love to see it compared to another smallish hatchet type in side by side chopping. What does the sheath for the hatchet look like? Chris

Boy, this hatchet must have just gone on their site. Just a couple of days ago I was checking out Swamp Rat to see if they had anything new, and the hatchet was not yet there.

It does look interesting. I like the fact that it is so compact.

I do not own one yet but most definitly will soon!
To those who own these: Do they chop well for their compact size?
Most other hatchets I have seen have longer shafts, which allow better chopping ability.

I thank you all for the heads-up. My order just went in. I got a chance to handle one of these rat's axes at Blade and look forward to handling my very own :D

This baby is not just for a wide swing at a thick tree. It chokes up beautifully for precision work. Nice little woodworker's axe.

Let's not be trying out any CQC with it, now. Oh, OK ... go ahead!

Nice pic of the sheath -- I hadn't seen that before!
