I got a catalog from an online knife vendor(can't link em, not a registered BF dealer), advertising a big sale on Cold Steel stuff, thanks to a special donation from Lynn Thompson as a way to get people to try his product. They had a lot of things marked nearly half the price you can find them at Amazon, BladeHQ, and such, and since I've ordered from them before I decided to pull the trigger and order me a pair of Rajah 3's(one plain and one serrated), and a serrated Hold Out 1.

I haven't gotten any new CS products since my mom got me a Hide Out for Christmas, so it'll be nice to add a few more CS blades to my collection. I've been expanding my ZT and Spyderco collections, but today, it was time to return to Cold Steel. I've wanted the Rajah 3 for awhile but couldn't decide between plain or serrated...for $30 though, I decided I'd get both. And I've wanted a Hold Out 1 forever but just kept passing it by. Admittedly, I woulda preferred a plain edge version, but for $40 I don't mind getting it serrated.

dude ebay has alot of cs for half price right now also. Im thinking about getting a hold out myself for 40. I cant decide between the ser or plain edge. I've never had a ser edge before but they look like they would make a better tactical use knife, rather than a plain edge? They even have a recon 1 for 41 bucks! New.

I'm wary about buying any knives on Ebay, as you run the risk of getting counterfeits(and unlike buying from Amazon or something, there's no guarantee you'll be able to get your money back). Although maybe those cheap CS knives on Ebay are from someone associated with the website I ordered from(they had Recon 1's for $40 as well), or from another site that Lynn donated marked down knives to...

As for plain edge vs serrations, Cold Steel's serrations excel at cutting mean(and thus, flesh) so they are fine for "self defense" or whatever, BUT, they're fairly fragile and not really ideal for more general tasks. So if you are wanting a folder strictly for defensive purposes, serrations are fine, if you want a general use knife, or a "tactical" folder that might also be used for day to day cutting tasks, I'd get the plain edge.

Now that I got em...

Yea I hear the counterfeits are getting scary good. I mean hard to tell if its a knock off or real. The para 2's are ridiculous. That's why when I order off of ebay, I never buy from china or just random seller's. I go threw people like u said, that are from the forms. Or have a huge company and ton's of knives and have perfect rating's.

Does your hold out have blade play? Im thinking about just getting a recon 1 instead cause I cant stand having a knife that's to tight, when opening and closing and I cant stand blade play! I hear that the hold out's after a while start having side to side play. I have the talwar (which is awsome!) and the lawman. I have the small lawman also and ever since I removed the teflon, it has play. I think one of the g10 striped out and the screw is just not pulling both scales 2gether enough cause sometimes the play is gone. Do u think cold steel would fix it or do u think they would take one look and be like "oh he took it apart, nope!" lol?

No blade play at all. I've never heard of the Hold Outs getting blade play either(and a quick Google of "Cold Steel Hold Out blade play" turned up nothing but "the knife has NO blade play" and similar comments)...I HAVE heard that about the Ti Lites, but never the Hold Out or any of their other big triad lock designs...

Not sure of the warranty on CS stuff tbh, so I dunno if disassembly voids it or not...might be worth calling customer service(or PMing the mod here) and asking though.

Hey those are nice additions to a collection. Especially if you got a good deal. Enjoy them, and use them in good health.
