What exactly does "sweet spot" mean in a knife?
I have heard it mentioned at least once.

I do know about the meaning of "sweet spot" on a ping-pong bat but not on a blade?

Anybody care to explain?

Anyway, how do you identify the exact spot of this "sweetness" on a blade whether it's long or short?

Just use it. On impact blades you will note that a certain area of the blade sinks deeper and has far less feedback. What you are seeing is a balance of power and vibration and it is influenced by technique.

That is where the point of precussion is.
It is normally located right between the weak and half weak section of the blade.
The sections of a blade working from tip to guard goes, weak, half weak, half strong then the strong section. Depends upon design of the piece as to the what and wheres you will use this.

I've always considered the recurve portion of the blade, that part that curves outward as the sweet spot for that particular blade style.

When you put the point of precussion in line with the handle you get more power when you drop the point of precussion down below the handle you get even more power but lose slashing ability. If the point of precussion sweeps up as what you are describing you do get better slashing ability.
