Swift 2 assisted opening mechanism

Hey Guys
Got my Swift 2 and have been playing with it a fair bit. I am quite impressed with a number of aspects of it. I was really curious about how the assist would work and so I have taken it down and the system is actually real genius. They have used one piece of steel to serve as the spring for the lock bar and the assist it's quite heavy but also located in such a way that it still allows for one handed operation (like a Kershaw). The only down side would be it's not really possible (not easy anyway) to deassist. Here are the pics:

Cool pictures. Now that you have seen the inside, can you tell what the culprit might be for those that are having blade deployment issues ?

What issues exactly? Is there a thread on here about it? I will say when I took it apart I accidentally got the spring on the wrong side of the small stud you can see there. Then the blade is basically stuck and won't open at all. There is nothing here that looks like it could give problems. I'll wait to hear a further description of the problem.

It does look like a pretty simple mechanism. I tried to search for issues and couldn't find anything with Google. The only video I saw with a "problem" was when the guy did the unboxing video it didn't fully deploy for some reason on the very first try. He did a one week follow-up video where he said it had been working fine and demonstrated multiple deployments with no issues. Maybe it needed a break in or maybe he did something wrong the first time.

Who is having deployment problems? I would be interested in reviewing that.

It was on the Cold Steel Forum... Here is a link

I seem to recall reading another similar review, but can't remember where I read it

Thanks for the link I am trying to think of what could cause what Gary in the cs forum was getting really strange. Maybe Cold steel will tell him what the problem way (or they may just trash it and send him a new one). It's hard to imagine what would cause it to stop all together.

^ Thanks for the info.

You're welcome

That's what I thought. The Swift really caught my eye, that was why I was looking for reviews of it....
After seeing the pictures, I thought perhaps it was the face on the spring that rests against the pin, or maybe something in the pivot.

I got mine and had a little trouble with getting it to open up right at first too.

It is because of the G10 handle being so smooth. This isn't the usual peel-ply, extra-grippy G10 that is on most of their other folders.

One has to make sure they "anchor" their pinky and ring fingers against the pocket clip and then push their thumb along-side of the handle to hit the stud.

It takes a little experimentation, but those that are already used to other brands of assisted-openers shouldn't have too much trouble with it.

GCG199 it sounds like the guy in the cs forum has a knife with a mechanical problem your right though a little practice makes a big difference especially if your not used to assisted openers. I will say mine gets smoother every day. It's very comfortable and I do like the change in G10 with this knife and the ultimate hunter.

Many thanks for the pics, kevin. I could see the silver plate down in the handle of mine (the spring), but I couldn't quite figure out how it engaged the tang, and I didn't want to take mine apart right off the bat, so these pics are really helpful.

edit: Btw, re: opening: you can see my comments in the thread 338375 linked to. I go by "sonoranscott" over at the CS forums.

I guess if you had to de assist it you can cut the assist bar off in front of the 2 torx screws that are holding the whole bar in. I didn't realize 1 scale is hollowed out to allow for the assist bar.

No problems at all with mine, awesome knife will probably end up with the all black as well

I will say when you feel the blade contact the spring when closing the knife it is a strange sensation and you can feel it kind of rub as you close the blade further. It will sometimes even bounce a little if you just hold the lock and let the blade drop. Thanks for the feedback here everyone it will be helpful when I do the review in a few weeks.
