The problem is a big one… the springs tension reduces over time and you get up and down blade play. It’s great at first but I have found on every one of these with atlas like knives the coil spring gets worse. Some users claim they are a better 'mousetrap', and stronger than the triad-lock. I guess, if you don't baton with this particular lock-type it works well. I purchased a Verdict [Atlas lock] as a gift, and my brother likes-it. I personally remain dubious, after seeing a Gideon video, and him loosen an Atlas-locked folder's joint after batoning with it. The big Mayhem has the Atlas-lock, so Cold Steel believes in them. As I don't recommend batoning with any-folder, the Atlas might be 'reliable'. But, just not my cup-of-tea. On a knife like the Swift III, the Atlas might be the better choice. I'm sure other posters will assuage any doubts, you may have regarding the Atlas-lock.
You’ve got added weight with the Atlas-style lock, which isn’t necessarily a dealbreaker. However, the real issue is the coil springs. Over time, they lose tension, leading to up-and-down blade play. I’ve owned three CIVIVI Visions and two Swift 3s, and every single one developed this issue. The reliance on coil springs for lock tension is a design flaw—once they weaken, the lock loses its tight engagement, compromising stability. If you don’t mind the added weight and blade play it’s perfect. If you flip a lot you will notice slight up down play within 4 months.
