Swinging some steel on a Saturday afternoon

A section of my folks property is a bit overgrown, and they've been asking me to come over and remove this tree. So, it seemed like a good opportunity to give the Dui Chirra a workout.

The problem:

First thing I needed to do was clear a work space. That long blade mowed through the brush and starts in minutes!

The blade takes a deep bite!

The Dui Chirra ate this tree like a tiger on a water buffalo! There was a moment of urgency as part of the tree landed a bit too heavily on the fence. This tree was well over 20' tall.

Cleaning the limbs and branches off was a breeze. The long heavy blade was a good choice for this project. Easy, deliberate swings, letting the physics of the blade do it's work, that's the key.

That's it for today. I'm beat, and need a beer. Time to clean the sap of the blade and get ready for round two!

Love to see these HI blades in real action. I'd rather see this than the safe queen pictures.

You gave no mercy to that tree. Great work.

And what might round two be sir? Kinda hard to beat round one! Beautiful job! Im glad you pick'd the Purna DC. That one is top of my list now (Thanks to Mr.Taco;)). I know I see a few 7-8 foot sections straight as an arrow:thumbup: Im suspecting that is round two? Just wild guess tho.

Round two will be to finish limbing the rest of the tree that's down. I only got half of it today. Then, there's the stump to deal with. I might give in an use the chainsaw on that, we'll see how it goes. There are some good pieces there and I could get a bow or two out of it. I might also use some for furniture projects, some for fire wood. Plenty to keep me busy for a while at any rate!

Dang sure sounds like fun to me! They say the internet is the invention of the century. Ha!! I say the chainsaw!

I am glad you gave my old gal a work out. She was just sitting pretty and untouched in my display case. Very nice to see how well it handled that monster tree. I am glad they are working out for you. That particular Dui Chirra is probably strongest, best finished versions I have ever owned. It is now in TC's more than capable hands!

Tries to look cool chopping down a tree with a kukri...

(..."HEY YA'LL LOOK AT THIS!"...)

...wrecks the fence in the process.

:D

(Well, good thing you didn't! :) )

'No fences were harmed during the making of this thread'.

Yes, the DC was in pristine condition and I managed to hold off for a few days, but it just begged to be put to work. After this chore, a few licks on the honing steel and then a leather strop and the edge is hair popping sharp.

I got a particularly good shot of the DC that afternoon! If I ever get around to it, I think this might become my avatar.

I went over after work today, and finished the rest of the tree in under 30 minutes. It's much easier when it's on the ground, working from trunk end to crown. The Dui Chirra easily sweeps through hardwood limbs over 2" in diameter in one stroke. All that's left is the stump.
