Endings are new beginnings, and this place is known for its swirling generosity. When I first came here one of the greats sent me a beautiful little knife he had made, a Sgian Dubh. It was a wonderful gesture, completely out of left field. I was shocked, grateful, and humbled. This week it happened to me again, another member of our esteemed forum PM'd me to say he had something to send me. I had no idea what to expect, I was taken aback. Today I recieved a package in a triangular box. You know what those mean to us all. I tenderly unwrapped it, much more carefully than last time when I sliced my hand open. Inside the box was a Samsher, I consider this to be one of HI's cadillacs. Additionally it is one I was hoping to snag in the next few months. I haven't snagged a DOTD in a month at least now, burning my money on flashlights instead of knives. So this was a big deal in the Roy household. And it is an enormous show of generosity. I am very grateful, and humbled, as always by this place, and you people. Thank you.

This Samsher is in perfect condition. It has been sharpened by very skilled hands, and no scratch was left on the mirror finish. Its 18" and 30 oz. The handle is Sisau, and beautifully shaped. The accessory knives are nice with very large handles that fill my entire hand. It has a tradidtionl bolster, with white metal fittings. MMM. Gonna be a favorite. Only drawback is that it is so pristine, and as a gift, so special, that I am loath to scratch it up chopping with it. I will anyway, I just don't believe in keeping them in storage.

To the member who sent me this beauty. Thank you. I cannot imagine why you did this. We are friends, and have been, and thas enough for me. I am truly thankful and humbled. You are one of the good ones. Thank You.

So, without further adou PICS.

Good things happen to good guys sometimes. Seems this is one of those times. This place is filled with some wonderful souls. Congratulations!

I am thankful beyond belief. I chopped with it tonight and its my second best chopper overall, and my best HI. My YCS is just behind it IMHO. I took pics and will post some more tomorrow. I got to use my GB axe tonight too. First time. Man what an axe. I am blessed. To be here, and to get the knife.

That is one beautiful blade.

This forum rocks!! I swear, the best people on the internet must congregate here.

that's fantastic news  . I am thinking of getting a villager next month.
I am on a very tight budget right now
I really like the high polish one's but i think i will be getting a villager instead, because they are cheaper. I am thinking about a Chiruwa Ang Khola or an M43. Do they come in Villager or blems?

Yea I like the villagers a lot. Saves me a step. I villagerize most of my knives. I think the CAK you may be able to find in a villager, but I have never seen an M43 villager. You should ask the wiser ones like Norm, or Ad, etc. Many here are wiser than I am.

I did some chopping last night, and planned to post pics, but can't get the pics to load here, so it'll have to wait for tomorrow. Stinks too.

If you want i can host them for you. Just email me and let me know.

A real beauty Andy! And obviously commissioned by your benefactor I would think, as all Samshers to date have been in chandan I believe. (Although there was a beautiful one in hill walnut that I missed last summer and still dream about. Came and went with a forumite who has posted only a few times in the past few years and has not been heard of again.)

At least 60% of the Bura ones have had habaki bolsters as well, although he has done a couple lately with standard bolsters that went as blems with minor cracks.

That is the best chopper HI makes, also IMO, although the Ganga Rams and YCS's are right up there.

Great knife for a great guy! Congrats on your unexpected delivery.

It was on a DOTD. I was pointed to the specific offering. There is conflicting 411 on the handle material between the DOTD page and the sticker on the handle. One says Sisau and one says Chandan. I refinished it last night, and don't believe its either of the two. With the rouge removed it is almost a perfect match for my Hill Walnut BGRS. So close, in fact, it could come from the same piece of wood. Unfortunately I had to remove the ring as it just wasn't possible for me to grip the knife comfortably with it on there. It turned out beautiful, I was holding my breath the entire time too, so I'm really glad.

I did some chopping with it as said above, and of my two biggest HI choppers it was the king(YCS vs Samsher). Still can't post pics. Says I have room, but can't post them through the site. Anyway here they are through an off site host (Thanks for the offer Ted, when you host are they more permanent than these crappy free sites?) Can't do any kinda real review, but if you are interested in the results PM me.

They would be there until I delete them. Of course, I'm liable to go "Hey what are these files? I don't need them and POOF they are gone."

Actually, I usually leave images for forums up for about 6-8 months and then delete them. If you really need them up longer I can leave them alone.

I have a couple Gigs of server space that is not doing anything, so let me know if you need to borrow some.

That's really nice Ted. Thanks. I'll keep you in mind in the future.
