I almost feel stupid asking this since my first knife was a SAK and I've always carried one. However, I'm naive and want to know if it is possible to switch the handles on my SAK handyman to the scales found on the SAK soldier. I just find it more durable and more attractive. Please let me know.

I don't know if those handles are interchangeable but I do know of people that have replaced the original scales with wooden ones. You could also do the same with other materials if wooden scales are not your thing. Another one I have seen was using mother of pearl and gold pins.

Do a search on www.britishblades.com/forums there have been several remodled SAKs on there. Hope that helps.

The Handyman and Soldier scales are not interchangable because they use different pin arrangements. The holes do not line up.

There are lot of people who make custom scales for SAKs in all kinds of materials. Wood and G-10 are the most common, but there are a few that have been done in steel and titanium. There's no reason someone couldn't make replacement scales from aluminum, like the ones on the Soldier, but I haven't actually hard of that being done.
