What do you guys use as a improvised material to replace cellidor scales on your Victorinox pocket multitool?

I prefer a variety of materials over the cellidor scales. As far as improvised, I’d say my favorite are the ones made from a computer circuit board. Mine are all bought so I wouldn’t know anything about making them.

How'd you make it fit?

PETG would be cool, I have a stash of spare scales, but if I do up a set of STLs I'll post them.

When I read this topic and started thinking about it, I got an idea. 💡

You could try using self-hardening putty to make your own scales. You could form the putty into scales directly on the bare SAK while the putty is soft. You could probably even add your own texture at this point, before the putty dries.

When the putty dries, it hardens, and then you've got yourself a new set of DIY scales.

There could be one issue though. It's possible that the putty might shrink a little as it dries, and then the scales will fall off. But you could just apply a little glue around the rivet bushings on your SAK and stick the scales back on, and they should stay in place at that point.

If anyone wants to give this a try, be sure to post pictures and let us know how it went.

The pin collars are barbed, so you get enough grab that you'd need a putty that shrunk several percent to not work.
