Swiss Army Knives

The question may be moot soon, since Victorinox has bought Wenger.

But over the years I have owned dozens of both and normally prefer Victorinox, but by a thin margin. And some things, like the pliars and scissors "spring assembly", Wenger does a better job.

mine is Victorinox,i think it is enough for everyday usage.

in China,Victorinox is more than Wenger, cheaper also.

wow im out of the loop when did Wenger get bought out? and we can change the question then "What was your prefered Swiss Army knife?"

My understanding is that Victorinox will still allow Wenger to manufacture its own products under the Wenger name. We will still see distinctly different products from both Wenger and Victorinox for many more years.

I vote for Wenger because they have some locking models in the mid-size range(not the larger models). I also like their compression lock on their slot-headed screwdriver. I see more innovation, less gimmics. But hey, maybe that's why they're the ones who'd be out of business, were it not for Victorinox...

Victorinox seem more commonly available here in the UK, and they are very good quality, so there is little incentive to look further for the Wenger.
Which is better? That's a tough one.
Overall I'd say the Vic, but only by a whisker.

I've never understood how anyone could look at a Wenger and a Victorinox side by side and choose the Wenger. Every Wenger I've ever seen looked like a chinese-made Truckstop bargain bin clone of a Victorinox.

To me, the difference in quality is obvious from ten feet away but there's a lot of people who disagree and I guess that's what makes a horse race interesting.

i prefer victorinox with wenger a close second.my understanding of the takeover is this[iirc from an article in knives illustrated last april i think] - vic bought wenger usa first when they went under.then wenger in switzerland was up for sale and vic eventually bought them also,to keep the company in swiss hands.victorinox has never retrenched employees,so i think this philosophy had a bit to do with the buy.vic will own wenger but they'll be separate brands.anybody seen the evo line by wenger?
