i was looking at the swiss army farmer and it looks very versatile, but i am quite rough on knives does anyone know of a knife similar to the swiss army farmer but made with a better steel possibly 154cm or can the swiss army knives take a decent amount of abuse

AG Russell sells a Boy Scout knife with a 154cm blade. It has the same tools as the farmer, but no saw.

As cheap as the Farmers are(sub $20) you can just go get another one if you break it---I EDC one and its a very good knife despite the low price.

Victorinox steel is good. It comes sharp and stays that way. The Alox models have slightly thicker blades. You probably won't break a Farmer.

And victorinox has a lifetime warranty. They don't really argue with you about doing repairs. SAKs are awesome, I carry one every day.

I do like the look and bigger size of the Wenger NewRanger series. I am thinking of getting one this weekend...
Check the NewRanger 57 Hunter. I also like the one-hand opening.

There's some more information about vic farmers under the General/Multi-tool forum. Alox Victorinox are great knives. Try and find a place that carries them and see them in person

There are prying tools, that work nice and strong, so what you expect to do with the blade? i second, that upgrading the steel doesn´t necessarily mean a remarkable upgraded knife performance.

Anything about the Farmer? A little clip would be all i wish.

Well, this evening i cut a catfood tin can and see, if the blade shows damages or dulls imidiatly. If so, buy the Farmer and get a mini Grip additional.:D

SAK's are great little knives. I am very much into custom knives, BUT, SAK's still have a soft spot in my heart. I keep a blue Farmer in my truck. My favorite SAK is the Alox Soldier, and when I carry a SAK, THAT is the one I carry.

The Farmer can take lots of heavy use. If the blade steel were 154-CM, it would not be as tough as what the farmer is made of and would be easier to break (but the edge holding would be improved some).

This is a good option. i have one and love it - a great knife. It is a bit heavier than the farmer, but very well-made.
