I have heard that the Swiss Army now has decided that their new knife will be a Victorinox (the same knife as GAK? = OHT?) Is this correct? (There was a discussion about the possibility that the new knife for the Swiss army could be China-made)

If so, what will happen with the present Soldier model for the civil market? Will it still be around and with the same name? Or will they stop production or maybe just change the name and then call the OHT Soldier?

BTW, If it is correct that the Swiss have decided to buy a Vic for their army I am very happy for the wise decision :)

Well there is nothing about the decision being reached over on SOSAK so I think that is just a rumor at the moment. Vic does appear to be leading the pack though. No word on what will happen to the Soldier/Pioneer series yet, it will likely depend on demand.

There was some discussion on Bladeforums here:

The description certainly sounds like the one-hand Trekker except that it specifies a locking can opener (the one-hand Trekker has a locking bottle opener).

According to The Star:
"The tender will only be opened to Swiss companies," Kaj-Gunnar Sievert, a spokesperson for Armasuisse of the defence ministry, said yesterday in a telephone interview. "Based on our technical requirements and our past experience, only very few specialized manufacturers can deliver this product and they are all in Switzerland."
