Does anyone have one of the Swiss Army surplus hatchets? I have seen them for around $25 and look to be decent quality. Just wondering if they are any good and if anyone has tried one out.

I ordered two from sportsman's guide. One is a Hults Bruks and the other is unmarked. They seem pretty good. The HB is a little harder steel and a thinner profile. The unmarked one is fairly heavy due to its thickness. I bet it's pushing up around 3 pounds. The HB has an epoxied eye. Neither of them are as good as my vintage Americans because of the flat cheeks. Hope that helps you out some. I think they are a decent buy, but it seems like a bit of a crap shoot because you don't know what exactly you'll get. Although buying axes without checking them out in person is pretty much always a crap shoot to some extent. I still do it.

I think I'll pick one up. I need another axe or hatchet like a kick to the pants but Just can't help it for 20+ bucks. Add it to the collection. Thanks

I would do it over again. Both of mine were practically brand new under a tiny rust and dust. I don't think the HB has ever been touched. The edge looks factory (not sharp BTW).
