So I just got my new Victorinox SwissChamp. Very much impressed with my new toy :)

I am curious; however, as to why this knife has oil dripping out of it. Literally, each tool is soaked in lubrication – is this normal?

Any opinions or feedback from those who use this?

It came in a sealed Victorinox plastic case with directions on back (looked real). The shipping address was the one that is listed on their customer service site. All in all, it looks real to me. It even has the Victorinox engraving at the base of the blade (same as in other knives on YouTube). I should mention, however, that this is my first knife my Victorinox.

Here is the address:

Actually SAKs do require oil - it's even in the directions. It's also normal for the tools to have oil on them. If it bothers you just use a Q-tip or paper towel to soak some of it up.

I've been collecting them for over 30 years and I've seen them come with little oil to very well lubricated.

Great info, thanks! It isn't much of a bother - am trying to find a good case for it though as I am scared that:
1. The oil will stain my clothes
2. The lint from my pockets will go in the grooves
3. The edge of the grooves may end up cutting my pocket

Any advice on a leather case that I can slide in my pocket? I prefer not to put it on my belt as that would look quite awkward (especially since I plan to carry it with me everywhere I go). I found a leather case by Victorinox itself on Amazon for $15 but that is for the XLT model and I feel that this one will be loosely hanging around in there.

So I just got my new Victorinox SwissChamp.

Congratulations! I was given one as a gift a year or so ago. I'd never seen one in person (nor even knew it existed). A friend had gone to Switzerland on business, asked if I liked Swiss Army Knives (I love 'em), and brought me back a rosewood Champ as a surprise (and: most generous) gift. I opened it and laughed and laughed-- what an extremely wonderful present. Emphasis on extreme. Heh.

What scales does yours have?

It looks like your "oiliness" question has been answered, and fortunately, excess oil isn't harmful. I don't have pocket sheath advice for you, but just best wishes for great enjoyment of your new Champ.

Thanks! Awesome story BTW. What do you mean by scales?

Scales = Sides, ie, what color is your knife?

Oh, lol. I have the red version, although I can imagine how gorgeous the rosewood must look. Personally, if I had that - I'd stare at it more than use it :P

On a serious note, do these blades get dull over time? I had bought a cheap knockoff few years ago and it lasted maybe 6 months before pieces fell off and the blade is now as dull as my finger.

i'll be the odd guy out (already am.) not one of my out-of-the-box SAKs had any lube on them and i wouldn't, given components like tweezors, scissors, magnifying lens and toothpick. the instructions do say lubricate pivot points with oil but i never had to do that.

One cannot go wrong with red, truly traditional. My first ever, a small Tinker, is red, and I'm glad.

The rosewood is very nice, but -- not content to simply look at it, heh-- I do use it, and it dents fairly easily, especially if dropped. Ahem. I can see my every use/mistake. I'm fine with that, but others may not be.

I've not known a Victorinox to suffer from "pieces falling off," and Victorinox has an excellent warranty should anything go awry.

Any blade can/will dull depending on usage, but I've found the Victorinox steel to resharpen nicely as needed. I haven't used my Champ's blades nearly as much as its other doodads and spritzles, but trust the steel will (re)sharpen when the time comes.
