so got a couple more victorinox models for valentine's from the wife including another swiss spirit w/ the black oxide(?) finish. have a few swiss tools in this finish but the first spirit for me in it.

nib and sealed package but open and there was grease all over it and turned my hands black just handling it. this was not present with any of my other oxide models. anyone else have the same experience?

gonna clean it up and put it in rotation, just curious.

I didn't have any of those problems when I got mine (BO, NIB)

the black has worn off some (couple years now), but not all and I use it the most. it's my fav ;)

Just wipe it down with a cloth for a few mins and the excess coating will come off, then you get a nice looking "patina" after a few months use. I used to own nearly 20 multitools from all manufactures, and the Spirit S in BO is the only one that survived.

By this do you mean survived hard use, or survived the cut; that is, the one you kept after trying and rejecting the others?

its the one I kept after trying out all others. Models included Charges, Waves, Powerlocks, Various Gerbers, other Swisstools and Spirits...its just the best tool for my needs.

after a good washdown and scrubbing all the grime is gone. just surprised me that none of my swisstools had nearly this much grime. alls good now and it's in the rotation.

I got a black spirit s a couple of months ago like that too. It's like the black coating didn't dry before they packaged it. Using CLP I wiped the extra off. What's left gives a better grip than bare stainless.
