Hey guys, I am studying and making a thesis about steel technology and sharpening techniques, but I couldnt find which one is true?

Swiss steel or swiss made still? Is there any specific type of steel made in Switzerland or is it just a common name for steel which made in Switzerland? If so why its called swiss steel?

For example if Im not wrong ATS34 is a japanese steel, right? But nobody call it japanese steel, its called ats34. Or at least doesnt it have a specific name
like sandvik for scandinavian?

Finally, where can I find an understandable info about stainless steel types; ferritic, martensitic, austenitic?

Thank you!

Where the steel is made doesn't mean much any more. Steel makers now all make steel to standard recipies. In the past certain steels were better because the ore available was of higher quality. For example, Swedish ore had lower amounts of sulphur and phosphorus so swedish steel was of higher quality. Today's standard steels are listed in various standards such as the AISI standards and there is an ongoing attempt to all steels under one worldwide standard.
