I've carried a Leatherman every day since the late 90's, and a Surge for the last 10ish years. I do love them, but the Swiss Tool Spirit X looks amazing.

I was just curious how they compared. In order for me to consider getting one, I need to know it can absolutely survive hard use and keep up with the Surge.

I don't have surge but I think Spirit X can absolutely survive whatever the whatever leatherman tools can.
I find the Spirit X a bit too slippery and the pliers are bit too blunt but other than that it's perfection.
Apples and oranges.

Never had a surge but I replaced a Wave with a Swiss tool and then to cut down on the weight the Swiss tool with a spirit x. I think the Swiss tools are superior in pretty much every way.

I agree. The Swisstools are just built better. I've owned dozens of both brands.

With that said, they are slick and the pliers are blunt. I've gone back to a Leatherman Surge.

So far I`ve one leatherman and I`m satisfied with it. As I wrote here on the forum today, I will buy another one. It seems to me that they are just great quality. I haven't had any problem with mine for several years.

I’ve got a Leatherman that I inherited from someone close – it’s kind of a keepsake to me. Even after all these years, it still works perfectly and has never let me down. That kind of gear really does stand the test of time.
