Because of you guy I have got into this MT thing. I ordered a Spirit and could not decide whether to get the serrated blade or the plainedge spear point blade. I went with the plainedge spear point. What would you guys done? I always have a plainedge knife on me, and was wondering if I should have got the serrated? I got the spirit at a good price on e-bay and I am not sure if he had a serrated model.

I think I would rather have the serrated blade model. If anyone is interested in a good price on this one just PM or e-mail me.

I really like the "butter knife" blade. great for cutting tape, and yes, useful for spreading stuff!

I would get the plain edge. I prefer plain edge over serrated. They didn't have the "X" model when I bought mine, but I could live without the serrated blade on my normal swisstool and put in some scissors. I'll be getting that one next!

I have an original Spirit with the sheepsfoot blade, and a Spirit X with the spear point. Before the Spirit X was available, I had sharpened the serrations off the Sheepsfoot to make it a conventional plain edge. I just prefer an unserrated blade.

I love the Spirit, but don't really care for the serrated blade. Its fine, and does the job as a multi use blade, but I just have preference for a plain edge in this application. If I recall correctly, I have 4 of them in the hoard. I can't pass one up when I see it on Amazon or eBay for a killer price. It may be my favorite EDC multitool of all, as it packs so many functions in such a compact space, and does it with so much finesse.

I would have got the x if I knew about it when I got mine. But The front serrated barber blade works pretty good. Witch ever model you decide on ITs a great tool. I know the spirit is the best multi tool I have used.

my 2 favriote tools are the.
the extra thick pry tool/ screw driver is great, the weird little chisel/wire stripper is great.

The only weakness of the Spirit, in my opinion, is the scissors. It doesn't open wide enough and it's too small. I'd prefer a regular SAK scissors, but this is a minor gripe. It is just right for clipping zip ties, though.

I like the serrated sheepfoot blade on my Spirit. Usually I carry a SAK with a plain edge blade in my pocket, so I have two different types of blades when I carry the Spirit.

That serrated blade is ugly, but sharp and useful. I have the Spirit that has both style blades.

I went with the serrated model because I already have a dedicated knife on me most of the times. Serrated just adds a new element. Always good to have variety IMO.

Back when I was still comparing multi-tools, a Spirit was one of my EDC candidates. There were some things about it I liked quite a bit, among those the serrated blade. It took getting used to it, but in a short time I found it a very effective blade for the kinds of things I do with a multi-tool. It's largely subjective, but I think maybe a lot of people who turn down the "butterknife" blade based on previously held opinions should give them a fair workout before making their decisions. Vic got it right, IMHO.

I would have gladly traded the inferior Spirit scissors for the S model with 2 blades, but eventually I passed on the Spirit in favor of a Leatherman Charge Tti instead. It's a fine tool, you can't go wrong with any of its variants, but the Spirit just didn't move me ;) .

I did not know that they had a spirit with both style blades.

I prefer a plain edge blade if it's my only one.
Nice to have a serrated one in addition though.
They're popular enough that you can sell/trade
if you decide you don't like it.

I have the model with the plain edge and the peanut butter blade. I love it because I can use the plain edge all the time and still have the other one as a back up or in case of an emergency to cut a seatbelt or rope.

I'm looking into getting a spirit, I want to go with the serrated version because I always have a plain edge. Though I just learned from here that there is an "S" model with both blades. Now I have to see if I can find one of those.
