hello all im a newbie here so ill start of right! just purchased at whole earth provision co the swiss tool. ive always had the rucksack on my belt but this multi tool replaces them all!

shees its so heavy and very shiny, very impressive. im an avid motorcycle camper and have relied on my sak rucksack to get my outta some jams so i have supreme confidence in this swiss tool.

just a few questions i saw a very old post stating that victorinox no longer makes its own knives. thats quite shocking. i look at the end of the blade and its stamped victorinox so how do you know the difference?

also the swiss tool is a few years old, how is its performance? any major flaws uncovered? ive been told that all the screwdriver heads were "rounded off" for looks and not utlility.

im a 30 female student here in austin who loves sak knives. thats my 2 cents.

:)

Welcome to the forums.
FWIW, I've never had a problem with the V-nox screwdrivers. I've been kicking around replacing my Rucksack with the Swiss-tool X myself.

is that the one with the bits and wrenches? at the store where i picked up my tool they had that and the auto tool thats all.

but does anyone know if swiss army brands manufactures victorinox for the us market? if they do my heart is broken. i LOVE saks and i want only the best.

Hello Kolkron and welcome to the forum,
The Swisstool is great!, I like it better overall than any other multitool. The screw drivers do tend to be a bit slick/over polished but this is easily fixed with some careful filing or sanding. The Swisstool is also pretty heavy at 10 oz. The one thing I would like that the Swisstool is missing is one hand opening blades (like found on the Leatherman Wave). As far as I know the Swisstool is made in Switzerland and Swiss Army Brands is just the U.S. importer.

the first mulit tool i had ever seen was owned by my friend thomas. back in 97 at the phoenix airport we passed by an ordinary wire steel fence.

he whipped out his leatherman and scooted down on his knees and cut out a 3 inch gap in the fence. "just wanna see if it coulda done that" he muttered to himself.

well from that moment on i was impressed by something so small could have potentialy cut us a path to a resctricted place.
the leathermen was very mysterious to me. i thought that it was a niche item. thomas said his brother gave him that for his birthday. he showed my the well worn edges of its leather sheath.

fast foward. had the swiss tool (i only buy the best!) for a week now and i attempted to cut an ordinary wire fence. no go. for some reason this is a faliure to me.

is the swiss tool capable of cutting (thick) wire? im no novice to tools but multi tools i hope they are not "dumbed down" versions of their bigger siblings.

kolkron, Do a search on the Swiss Tool. I have one and have been
very disapointed with it as I really like SAK's in general.

Anyway , a seach will give a wide selection of pro's & con's to think
about. Good Luck.......
