These stoves are pretty popular. They are really neat, highly functional and at one point they were only $10. They are getting a little harder to find now, but worth a look.

I have three...they don't hold up well...for once the thin aluminum is heating a few too many times that start to get fragile. It is an awesome concept but should have been done in stainless. The aluminum also transfers into your water so you will taste and smell it. Don't get a used one or an already issued one...new only on these for I have a used one and 2 new ones and new ones are much better. Storing water will leak for the cork isn't perfect. The nested design is awesome!! There is nothing like it. Just wish they had a different material and a screw on cap. I have seen some people swap out the bottle with a stainless one and then it becomes very good.

if you open up the fuel feed hole, a Trangia alcohol stove or Sterno can be used for a heat source... the Trangia puts out much more heat

Ive been looking at these and wondering the same thing you said, about the unique handle? the only thing that ive seen is that the cup fits into it, so if you were boiling the water in the bottle the cup would sit in the handle, and vise-verse.. only other thought was that it would also keep tension on the cup, or just to displace the heat if you got to pick up the stove by the handle?
