SwissChamp belt carry

I love my SwissChamp SAK, but I'd like a better way to carry it. Sometimes, with certain jeans, I can fit it in the watch pocket. Wearing a vertical sheath at work with dockers looks a little weird to me. I'm thinking maybe a horizontal leather sheath might work. Anybody here carry a SAK that way? I've looked at some nylon sheaths, but most seem to be too large for this knife. I'll consider a nylon sheath, but only if it fits pretty well. The knife is only 3.5 inches long, but FAT. Any ideas?

Thanks

Jon

Jon-- You need one of these from Eric at On Scene Tactical:

Don't have a Swiss Champ but for a leather horizontal carry sheath I'm sure G2 could make you a nice one. I have two of his sheaths and they are outstanding.

all the pouches shown on the SwissArmy.com site seem to be vertical carry.

So if you want one that form fits to the SwissChamp you may have to custom modify one for yourself - for example this pouch looks nice and is inexpensive at $7 retail:

cordura® belt pouch black #33214
fits all 74mm - 91mm knives including SwissChamp.

It shouldn't be too hard to sew or fix a horizontal belt loop to the back - either through the existing vertical loop or sewn straight on to the body of the pouch.

Failing that there are horizontal pouches for things like small APS cameras - but these will not be form fitting - and probably be regarded more like an extra pocket........

When I got my Swiss Champ it was available with the SOS kit which was a black leather sheath which included a compass, ruler, sharpening stone, mechanical pencil, band aids, matches, safety pins, needles and thread, and paper. :)

I carry one in a brown basketweave sheath that I got from Smokey Mountain Knifeworks http://www.eknifeworks.com

It only cost 3.99 and rides high on your belt. All I wear is khakis and no one has ever raised an eye. Cellphone on the right and SAK on the left. The stock # is SH1135.

I find that the basic black Victorinox cordura pouch works very well. I've been carrying mine that way since 1995. When the knife is in the pouch, the package is actually smaller than you might think.

Also, I carry mine right next to my cell phone. As long as you don't have anything else on your belt, it doesn't look too bad, and the cell phone detracts the attention from the knife. I'll even carry it that way with a shirt and tie.

Some great suggestions! I suppose it depends on how nice a look you want.., and the type of coverage (as you mentioned).

As mentioned by Slide13.., Gary Graley could make you a cool one of leather, and so could Dave "Lifters Leather".

There are some old "Uncle Mike's" sheaths Benchmade used many years ago that fit them just about perfectly and can be carried vertical or horizontal, but those sheaths are very hard to find these days.

Actually I have a couple of leather sheaths that look nice with Dockers. Pizzini has them. It's in Germany but the shipping is reasonable and the service is fast. Under two weeks. Take a look at these sheaths. I don't think all of them are readily available in the USA.

Yeah, maybe a vertical sheath right behind my cellphone wouldn't look so bad after all. I'm probably thinking about it too much. I imagine most people wouldn't even notice. Thanks for all the great suggestions! :D

hi folks,
hi gadgetman7,

first of all - we are in Austria

not Germany.

the victorinox leather case typ 833.LH is across to carry. it´s made for the swiss tool or a locke blade knife, but i just tried the swiss champ and it fits very well. the case is 2cm to long of corse but it does not disturbe.
