Has any one had any problems with their Swisstools having blade play? I have heard it does, but the Spirit doesn't. This may be a deal breaker.

Nope, none at all. If anything mines a little on the tight side, but i can still get stuff out with no nails. I have no idea who ya heard it from but i've had two, my grandfather has one and none of them have play anywhere.

My SwissTool has blade/tool play on all. Side to side and against the lock. It's pretty minor and doesn't bother me at all - it's still one heckuva MT. Don't have a Spirit, so no comment there.

(BTW, I bought my SwissTool used on the bay - have no idea how old it is.)

Well, used is another story. Depending on who had it before you maybe they messed with it. I am by no means taking a defense lol i know it probably sounds like it, but if it does bother you, if there happens to be any, i fixed one by wrapping it in a rag and putting it in a vice and slowly tightening and checking the rivet. It tightens it all up.

Thanks GS750! I just tried your "fix" and it worked great! I took it in steps - not too much pressure to start with, and worked up in about 3 or 4 tries until I got it to where I want it. Absolutely NO side to side play at all in any of the tools, and yet still opens smoothly. Thank you, thank you! :D

No problem :-). I thought of it one day when i was trying to figure out how to fix one haha. Glad it worked for ya.

The Swisstools ALL have up and down blade play. I have had dozens of them go through my hands and every single one hand vertical play. The Spirit is dead tight though, nothing in any direction!

The vertical play doesn't cause a functional issue , I find side play a deal breaker .

MOST mass produced lockback style knives have up and down play, i consider the swisstool a lockback because of the way the lock contacts the blade. It's not horrible though, if you really look for it you can feel it.

Yes, why is that?.
All of my swisstools have had up and down play but the 2 spirits I have had no play whatsoever.
Anyone know why that would be?.

Totally new concept to me. My Spirit X and SwissTools are both rock solid

The Spirit is a more refined iteration of the Swisstool , and embodies a lot of learning curve .
