Anyone with a Victorinox Swisstool please chime in. I just received my Swisstool (black oxide version) and there is forward movement on both blades when in the locked open position as well as on some of the other tools. There is even a tiny bit of lateral movement as well.

Is this normal for a Swisstool? I have a Spirit model and there is absolutely no movement whatsoever on any of those tools. Would this be considered a defect covered under warranty?

Mine is fine. It is a multitool though, I don't expect it to act like a fixed blade. You should go handle a few in a store and see if yours is normal.

I've read about it from a few people (like here; http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,3877.0.html ),
I just did a search in "swisstool play" and found a few threads.

most say it doesn't effect the performance. My Swisstool RS has none, nor does my Spirit.
if it really bothered you I would contact Victorinox, I hear they have excellent CS ;)

My first one had play in the pliers. I brought it back to the store and they sent it. To voctorinox and they replaced for free. I believe it was a refurb, but i couldnt tell a difference.

I have minimal play in the plierhead, noting to harm function, buts its there.
Other than that, all tools are tight in lockerd position.

My Wave wiggles in all directions, but it works like a charm...

The blades in both of my Swisstools have a bit of movement. Nothing that would cause any problems I don't think. My Spirit has no movement at all but it's a newer more refined design so I guess that's why.

I have six SwissTools and every single one of them has up and down movement.. It's unfortunate but a part of the design. The Spirit is as tight as a drum though as you said

Okay fellas thanks for all the input. It appears from the replies (and some research on a few other forums) that the majority of Swisstools have some movement in the tools. I called Victorinox and they told me that I could send it in for replacement, however, I decided to just live with it. Thanks again guys.

that's cool jonny, remember your Swisstool is guaranteed for life! so no hurry ;)

Play? I've been putting my Spirit X trough hell, and no play with any of the tools, no slipping when it comes to the phillips driver or anything that I've ever seen reported

I own three different models of Swiss Tool and all of them have have some blades that give a little. Some more than others but its never hurt a thing for working one to death. My original is still going strong and could still be the only one I own but I found I really wanted scissors and a metal file so the last one I bought had both of those and I gave up the serrated blade for one single plain edge blade. I carry that one and the original is now in the safe but I must say of all the M/Ts I've owned the Swiss Tool is the toughest most durable of the bunch.

I haven't the newest version of the swisstool.
It has some play like mentioned.
I really can't understand how the swisstools have play but the spirits don't.
