Hi guys, as per recommendations ive purchased a Swisstool. Just have 2 questions.

1. I was wondering, do Swisstools usually come with a coat of slighty greasy oil on them? When i recieved mine, i initially thought it might have been used.
I was told that Swisstools are finished/polished really well, but the greasy coating makes it look all smudged.

2. Is it normal to have some play on all the tools in the opened n locked position?

I have a swisstool and it did seem to smudge a bit. It also has some play in the tools. I have a couple of Swisstool Spirits and the tools lockup tight on them. It seems that many of the 111mm tools/knives also have some play in the lockup. For some of us that were/are used to knives from Spyderco and Benchmade, it takes some getting used to have play in the blades. Generally speaking, however, I'm very happy with the functionability of the Victorinox tools and knives.

:)

I must of had about 8 Swisstools go through my hands over the years and they all had a little play somewhere , either in the pliers or the tools . Now I've EDCed one now since 1999 and that play will not interfear in any way with its performance ;) As for the oil/ grease when your sitting watching TV tonight just sit with a cloth and polish hell out of it and dont stop till you can see yourself in it :D

Hello x2x3x2,

For question 1: Yes, out of the box, my SwissTool X also came with a light coating of what seemed like the lubricant Victorinox uses on their tools. I just wiped it off with a piece of cotton cloth and it was good to go.

For question 2: Yes, there is a *bit* of play when the tools in the handles are opened and locked out. Happens on both my STs. I think it is because of the tolerances of the lock design (but don't take my word for it since I'm no engineer). Anyway, the lock is still solid and I wouldn't worry much about the slight play. =)
