Hello everyone, i am looking into a Boker kalashnikov from BladeHQ. I live in upstate NY and i have been doing some research as far as the law. I understand they are illegal to carry, unless you have your hunting or fishing license and your doing one of the activities. I was wondering if it would still be illegal if i was just getting it for my collection and it would be locked up in my knife cabinet (wouldn't leave the house).

Thanks

First, are you ordering it from a merchant located within the state of New York? If not, you would automatically in violation of federal law, so it almost seems trivial to try and obey state law while doing so. And anyone shipping to you from in the state would be in violation of New York Penal Law § 265.10 (2).

As to the possession itself, the Penal Code does contain this exception:
a. Sections 265.01, 265.02, 265.03, 265.04, 265.05, 265.10, 265.11, 265.12, 265.13, 265.15 and 270.05 shall not apply to:
...
6. Possession of a switchblade or gravity knife for use while hunting, trapping or fishing by a person carrying a valid license issued to him pursuant to section 11-0713 of the environmental conservation law.
