about to switch from DE to a straight razor but cant decide between a full or half hollow grind. any opinions? i probably wont use the straight everyday like most ive seen state on here but when time permits id like that option.

It doesn't matter that much at the end of the day. I use and enjoy both, but if I had to choose one, it would be half hollow. That extra bit of steel gives the blade a stiffer, heavier feel which I like. I've also seen some say the stiffer blade is better to learn with because the feedback is a little easier to get the feel of, but that migh be an individual thing. Having a keen edge and good stropping are probably more important. Either way, enjoy! :)

Do you have a thick, heavy, or wiry beard, or would you say it is more whispy and light?

Reason being, many with very tough beards like heavier blades. That said, properly honed, either will be so sharp that they should make light work of anything.

Some like highly hollow blades for their flexibility as they seem to conform to your curves slightly.

In the end, it is all about preference and once you develop straight shaving skills you will likely find great results with either...but you may have preferences. It is sort of like knives...some guys like heft, other guys like thin flexible blades. All good, just different.

Thank you sir. I read after starting this that half hollows are better to learn on due to their rigidness. Less nicks and cuts.
