Sword Big Knife rare Unusual Must Looky

I saw that and actually considered bidding on it when it was at a much lower price. I'm glad you got it.
Please let us know your opinion on it.

Guys, that is a Filipino Kris sword. The sheath is not broken, it is wound with thread for a reason. The reason is, if you have to draw the sword in a hurry and it gets hung up in the sheath, the blade will just cut the threads and be open for business. That is a great find, and it may well be a live blade that was brought home from WWII in the Phillipines. The ad says he has a smaller one like it, which would be part of the set. Many times a sword and knife are used together in Filipino fighting arts.
You got a nice piece there!

Great snag Bill. Can't wait to see your improved pics. Are you going to blade show? How is your mobility doing these days?

A sleeper on eBay?

Hope it looks good in person when I get it. Will take some better pictures.

Dayum Bro, that is one helluva nice Sundang!!!! :D To these untrained eyes it appears that the mounts holding the sword onto the hilt are silver?
I can never remember what those mounts are called? I'm not so sure that it will have Pamor as most of the Sundangs aren't made of damascus type material from what I understand.Actually the appearance of the blade looks much like the one I have but mine isn't nearly as nice.
Federico as well as you Bill are more familair with these swords and knifes than I am but on mine the tang is ridicuously short, maybe 5/8" long and depends on the mounts to hold the hil onto the blade, mine are missing as is the band around the handle. I suspect someone sometime probably tried to chop something with it that wasn't meant to be chopped by a sword. :(

I plan on attending the blade 2006 show and would love to get in on the fellowship with HI Cantina members.

Mobility is getting better. I'll post a new thread on the TKR (Total KNee Replacement) soon. Am off the walker and getting around pretty good. Some concern about range of motion being limited. Doing the exercises and working hard.

Thanks again for your support.

Nice Kris. I have a brass hilted kris of a similar pattern with a damasus wavy blade. My scabbard is wood and bound with thread through holes. It has a braided jute belt with a small metal hook fastener. The hilt is for a tiny hand.

Kris (Moro/Philipine) were used as weapons, however the Kampilan was thier main sword. Magellan was killed by a Moro with a kampilan.

Keris (Indonesian) were almost never used as weapons. They were spiritual talismanic pieces and not designed for combat and mostly ineffectual except for a stab.

I greatly respect Federico's knowledge of Moro kris. I hope one day to meet him.

Another man I greatly respect in Moro weaponry is Erik Farrow. Erik is also an incredible restorer of almost any old artifact. He works for a lot of museums. Anne and I visited his studio in San Rafael, California.

Erik was married wearing full Moro armor. Delightful wife and son. Erik's father, Al is a world class expert in African and also restoring museum quality relics. They work together.
