How thick and wide should a blade be? I was thinking about 1/4 inch thick with a fuller and about 2 inches wide or less. Any thoughts or advice?

Basic question is what do you want the sword to do - cut, thrust, or both? Cutting blades tend to be wider and of thinner cross section. Thrusting blades tend to be narrow with a thicker cross section. Do you want a blade to taper to an acute point or a broad rounded point? How much distal taper (thinner towards the tip) do you want? Historically you can find a huge variation in blade designs.

Not all cutting blades have narrow cross sections. Barong blades, since theyre so small tend to be quite thick and heavy to help compensate for the lack of length. A little hmmph to the cut so to speak.

I have an Angus Trim sword here, it measures about 31" long, 1 and 2/3" wide at base, profile taper to less than 1" before the tip. It's 1/4" thick at base and distal taper to 1/8" before tip.
