I picked up a Camillus big stockman recently and the blade says, "Sword Brand". Does anyone know what kind of steel was used in the blades on the Sword Brand?

In old advertising material I have, the steel used in Sword Brand knives is described as: "...mirror polished blades of Camillus high carbon Sword Steel". Other Sword Brand knives are described as having Stainless steel blades. The Sword Brands I own are all marked plainly on the tang as being Stainless.

Hopefully, one of the factory guys will wander in and elaborate.

Thanks. The model I have is an 88, large stockman. I don't find any ss on the tang. It is kind of unique--the handle has a button that slides back and forth and locks the clip blade when it is open.

The model #88 three blade stockman pattern was called the LOK-RANCHER. This knife was a top quality "Sword Brand" model that featured 440A stainless steel blades. The clip blade could be locked in the open postion with the sliding lock located in the handle. The sliding lock was the same design as used on the model #7 CAM-LOK knife. The model #88 was made during the 1970's and 1980's.

Interesting. I'd like to see the knife. Pickup man, can you post a photo for us? Thanks for the answer, Tom.

Thanks everybody for all the info. Sorry, I can't provide a photo--no camera yet. If you check ebay for Camillus knives, you will see one sooner or later come up for sale. The "cam lok" seems to be a pretty cool feature, I'm surprised more knives never had it.
